Send Us Your Climbing Hacks, Win an Edelrid Rope

Climbing Magazine is looking for reader-submitted mini-tips and “climber hacks” for our Quick Clips department: the best how-to, DIY tips for the gym, crags, mountains, and beyond. If you have an idea that you think fits and is 50-200 words long, send it along with any photos to and we’ll give it a look. The best submission in our Autumn 2020 issue, as chosen by the editors, will receive a Swift Protect Dry 8.9mm, 60-meter rope from Edelrid! (Only available within the US.)

The Edelrid Swift Dry Protect is the first dynamic single rope with a sheath that includes aramid, for markedly increased cut resistance. Thanks to a special processing method, the Swift Protect Pro Dry remains dynamic. Despite reinforcement with aramid and the overall higher sheath content, the impact force remains within the required standard. These characteristics make the Swift Protect Pro Dry the ideal lead climbing rope and the perfect companion for alpine climbing and mountaineering.

Here is an example of the sort of thing we’re looking for:

Rack trad climbing cams harness hack rock

Running out of room on your gear loops? Try this rack hack.

Here’s a quick harness-racking tip for long trad leads on which you’ll need multiple pieces of the same size. In order to keep the pieces sorted and quickly find one of the mutiples you need, simply clip any additional pieces onto the biner of the first piece of that size: In other words, clip that No. 2 Camalot to your gear loop, then clip any other No. 2s directly onto that first piece’s carabiner. Voila! A bouquet of easy-to-access No. 2s.
