Check out the third climb of the Smiley's Committed project: Climbing the 50 Classics of North America. "We thought it would be a great idea to climb Liberty Bell (5.10 C2, 10 pitches) on Independence Day. July 4 dawned a cloudy day, but we went for the crack regardless, hoping it would clear. We climbed the first pitch, but the clouds rose up from below us, and the temperatures dropped. It was not the best day for a 1,200-foot tower." The Smileys waited another two days for good weather, and were able to make the ascent on July 6. Read more at
