In June, Chris Sharma made the first ascent of an enormous new deep water solo on Pont d’Arc in Ardèche, France. The route finishes about 100 feet above the water—roughly 35 feet taller than Sharma’s iconic Es Pontas and Alasha deep water solos—and clocks in at 8b+/5.14a. Sharma worked it ground up over four days before completing the line, taking some big falls in the process.
On Instagram, Sharma wrote: “This line is without a doubt in the top 10 of my most memorable climbing experiences of my life. It mixes the movement of sport climbing, the adventure of alpinism, with a hot summer day on the river.”
