In September 2020, Barbara “Babsi” Zangerl and Jacopo Larcher free climbed the hardest route on the Eiger’s north face, Odyssee (8a+/5.13c, 1,400 meters), in a blistering 16 hours. Their ascent ended a multi-year saga with the 33-pitch route, after having completed its second free ascent over four days in 2018.
As part of Black Diamond’s “Committed” series, Alpsolut Pictures follows the European power couple up Odyssee, from their initial forays lugging a portaledge up the overhanging wall, to getting stormed off only two pitches from the top. Rappelling 31 pitches through hail, wind, and rain proved to be one of the scariest and coldest experiences Zangerl had ever experienced.
