Is it too late to visit Finland this summer? Between the floating sauna (seriously??), a cottage-free lakeside, and isolated cliffs of undeveloped granite, this section of Finland’s Lake Saimaa appears to be climber’s paradise.
Black Diamond’s latest video highlights Nalle Hukkataival’s climbing history with Lake Saimaa and includes incredible footage of his 5.14 deep water solos (DWS), including Ei Tippa Tapa (8c/5.14b).
The DWS at this crag provides a unique challenge: Hukkataival’s lofty projects are too steep to easily top rope, forcing him to take a ground up approach once he knows the beta. And for Ei Tippa Tapa, the crux is at the very top. “Long falls are inevitable,” Hukkataival said.
