The Hong Kong Trifecta: Rope Soloing Three Peaks and Running 17km in a Day

Despite being the first Hongkonger to make successive summits of two 8,000 meter peaks (Everest and Lhotse) and an accomplished rock climber across a range of climbing disciplines, Paul Cheung Chi Fai is little known within Hong Kong’s climbing community. Quiet and unassuming, he establishes and completes his objectives with exceptional focus and little fanfare. With the COVID-19 pandemic putting a halt to any overseas climbing endeavors, Paul envisions an ambitious link-up involving climbing and running between three of Hong Kong’s major rock faces in a one-day push, a project which encapsulates his versatility as an athlete and his love for the mountains. Project Alone follows Paul on his project and gives a glimpse into the thoughts and motivations of one of Hong Kong’s foremost mountaineers and all-round mountain athletes.
