Mammut, premiere mountain safety and outdoor brand, has announced a scholarship for women and non-binary people in partnership with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). The recipient will be awarded a full AMGA scholarship in any mountain guide course or exam and receive a complete kit, including safety gear, from Mammut. As an AMGA partner since 1998, Mammut created this scholarship to support the advancement of all women and non-binary people in the outdoor industry.

“At Mammut, we acknowledge the traditional representation of outdoor pursuits and accomplishments as being particularly homogeneous and we are striving to increase representation as well as inclusivity within the outdoor industry and beyond,” said Mammut Marketing and CSR Account Manager, Nora Fierman. “Mammut has always been an industry leader in safety, innovation and performance, and we are always learning from our consumers and customers. This incredible scholarship program with AMGA, and our partnership with the inspiring Erin Parisi and the TranSending7 team, is just the beginning.”

With less than fifteen fully-certified Mountain Guides who identify as women in the United States, Mammut is offering this AMGA scholarship to reduce barriers to entry in a traditionally male-dominated space. Mammut recognizes the importance of women and non-binary representation in the outdoors and is pursuing a more inclusive space.

To apply for the scholarship, please complete the application linked below. Applications will remain open from March 8 – 21, 2021. The scholarship recipient will be announced on or before April 9.

“We are thrilled to partner with Mammut in this way to offer more opportunities and reduce barriers for traditionally marginalized groups in our association. We are so grateful for Mammut’s support over the years and our continued growing partnership,” said Holly Barrass, membership director at AMGA.

In addition to the AMGA scholarship, Mammut will be donating 5% of sales on March 8 to TranSending 7, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of transgender rights by promoting athletics as a platform of transgender awareness and inclusion. The program’s inaugural mission aims to empower transgender athlete and founder, Mammut Ambassador Erin Parisi, to summit the single highest mountain on each of the seven continents, a feat yet to be finished by a transgender person.

“Growing up, I never had a role model who shared similar routes or obstacles in taking on their objectives – whether outside or in life. That is why we launched TranSending 7, with the goal of facilitating leaders and projects that inspire and encourage outdoor exploration for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary athletes,” said Erin Parisi, founder of TranSending 7. “We are proud to be working with Mammut as they embrace these communities in the outdoors, and launch their non-binary and LGBTQ+ AMGA scholarship. Opportunities like these will develop visible leaders in the alpine, and help turn the crag into safe space for the next generation of climbers.”
