The first issue of Climbing Magazine was released in May of 1970. The black and white periodical featured a photo of an unnamed climber on the North Ridge (5.7) of White Twin Spire at Garden of the Gods, Colorado, on the cover. Inside, there was a story about Hetch Hetchy by Galen Rowell and a story about the Black Canyon of the Gunnison by Layton Kor, among others. This year, in 2020, we’re celebrating our fiftieth anniversary. In honor of the milestone, we’re offering a PDF of our inaugural issue for download.
