Elite boulderers and amateurs alike gathered in Maryland and Nevada last weekend for two major bouldering competitions. At the Earth Treks gym in Maryland, the three-event 2006 Mammut Bouldering Championships got under way, as Coloradan Daniel Woods topped the men’s pro field, flashing two of the five routes in the finals. Georgia’s Kate Reese took the women’s comp, flashing four out of five problems. The remaining stops on the tour are in Massachusetts (February) and New Jersey (March).

The first annual Rock Fight at the Red Rock Climbing Center in Las Vegas enticed many of the Southwest’s best boulderers with a $1,000 first-place prize. Brandi Proffitt won the women’s comp, and Chris Lindner was the top male.
